In the early 1990s, Chris Cossell, Metrolocks' founder, asked 4 students from an English-French "Junior Enterprise" research centre in London to explore the possibilities offered by the London locksmith market.

Their conclusions, spread over a 50-odd page in-depth report was a riveting read, even today, after over a decade has passed.

In terms of locksmithing, London proved to be a real service desert. Locksmith firms generally were small and Dickensian, protective about their trade, rough in their demeanour, and, worse, generally unavailable for work. The students collected countless testimonies from frustrated users about phone lines going unanswered, not at one or two firms, but, incredibly, at times, the first fifteen they phoned!

And when the mother locked out with three small children finally got through to a human voice, she could expect to be asked to wait until the following day's afternoon.

Of course, a lot of locksmith work did get done nonetheless, but it was mainly the call-out jobs of the existing clientele of the respective locksmith companies.

Clearly, things could only get better for the deprived London customers.

And so 1st Metropolitan Locksmiths Ltd. was born, as a sister company to Champion Locksmith Inc., the largest locksmith firm on America's East Coast. The American know-how proved invaluable in terms of setting up a viable customer service structure, with a clear focus on customer satisfaction.

The company is managed by Chris Cossell, a veteran with over 15 years of relevant industry experience. Chris is a strong believer in the virtues of fully supporting and adhering to the Aims and Objects of the Master Locksmiths Association, the industry's main self-regulating body.

The company itself is a proud member of the London Chamber of Commerce, and has been successfully vetted by one of the UK's most important institutional vetting bodies, Constructionline.
